Second-graders at John O. Tynes Elementary will be taking a closer look at nature this year under a microscope. They’ll study the effects of heat with a Bunsen burner, and use magnets to learn about magnetic fields.

John Herbert helped the class get a $500 grant from his employer, Chevron Oil, to buy a Nasco science kit, complete with microscope and slides, Bunsen burner, beakers, magnets and scales.
