At Monday night’s meeting, the City Council discussed an ordinance that forces members of any commission to resign before running for a seat on the City Council.
The discussion came about because in September Mayor Tracy Wills Worley requested that the Community Development Department review the ordinance and conduct a survey of how other cities deal with planning commissioners, in particular, who decide to run for council. The survey found that only three out of 26 Orange County cities surveyed follow the same procedures as Tustin; 23 do not require planning commissioners to resign.
