PLACENTIA
The Placentia-Yorba Linda school district’s resources for teaching limited-English speaking students have nearly doubled, with a $1.7-million grant for a new after-school program.
The district normally spends about $600,000 a year on programs to teach the 4,300 students in Placentia and Yorba Linda schools now learning English as a second language. That money is used during regular school hours.
The new grant, paid out over three years by the 21st Century Community Learning Center, covers the cost of after-school assistance.
