Flood Basin Proposal Set for Wednesday Meeting
Residents of Sun Valley, which has no storm drains, will learn at a public meeting Wednesday about a proposal to create a flood basin that doubles as a park with soccer and baseball fields.
The Los Angeles County Department of Public Works will outline what it calls “an organic approach” to solving the area’s flood problems, including the construction of a park/basin similar to Los Angeles’ Pan Pacific Park, said Carl Blum, deputy director of the DWP.
On rainy days, as many as 1,000 children in Sun Valley miss school because roads become impassable, said Manuel Rangell, principal of Sun Valley Middle School.
Wednesday’s meeting is scheduled from 6 to 9 p.m. at Sun Valley Middle School, 7330 Bakman Ave. For more information, call (818) 623-4864.
