HUNTINGTON BEACH
Tower Zero, the city’s state-of-the-art lifeguard observation tower, will be dedicated at 10:30 a.m. today at the Huntington Beach Pier.
The ceremony will be attended by several dignitaries, including Mayor Dave Garofalo, City Administrator Ray Silver and Rep. Dana Rohrabacher (R-Huntington Beach).
The new tower, completed in May, has bathrooms, an emergency telephone, a first-aid room, central air conditioner and heater, bigger windows, surveillance cameras and a museum displaying sand from around the world.
Max Bowman, a 63-year-old Huntington Beach resident, also will be honored for his decades of public service and lifesaving education. Bowman began his career as a city lifeguard in 1954 before retiring as the director of the city’s Community Services Department in 1990.
