Truck Avoids Car, but Spills Celery

Share

A tractor-trailer loaded with nearly 400 boxes of freshly picked celery swerved to avoid a car on Harbor Boulevard on Monday morning and tipped over, spilling its contents across the side of the highway.

The truck had just left Gene Jackson Farms in Oxnard with 384 boxes of celery when the incident occurred just south of Gonzales Road, said Jacinto Alvarez, a supervisor for the farm who arrived at the scene shortly after the 11:30 a.m. incident.

The driver of the truck, David Juarez, said he was heading to a refrigerated storage area in Oxnard when he swerved to avoid a speeding car.

The trailer he was hauling flipped to the right, hurling boxes of celery across a nearly 50-yard area on the west side of Harbor Boulevard.

No one was injured, according to the California Highway Patrol.
