University Women Award Scholarships

* The American Assn. of University Women, Thousand Oaks branch, announced the recipients of its annual scholarships for graduating seniors attending local high schools. The winners are:

Kelly Havel, Agoura High School; Vanessa Madrigal, Newbury Park High School; Melanie Fox, Oak Park High School; Jaclyn Fritz, Thousand Oaks High School; Kaitlyn Wilson, Westlake High School; Shannon De Loye, Conejo Valley High School; Alexandra Mitchell, Oak View High School; and Katherine Parsons, Century High School. Wren Rebecca Nealon and Emily Yeh, both of Moorpark College, were awarded transfer scholarships.

Fire Department Fund to Help Students * The recipients of the Ventura County Fire Department Benefit Fund scholarship program were announced. The $500 awards “provide moral and financial assistance to all Fire Department employees and family members as needed.” The recipients are:

Nicole Bower, wife of Firefighter Jeremy Bower. She is working on a teaching credential at Cal State Northridge.

Tiffany Ginn, daughter of Alice Ginn, Ventura County fire information systems employee. She is working on a degree in psychology at Cal State Northridge.

Matthew Kappen, son of Kenny Kappen, a Fire Department captain. He is studying physiology at UCLA.

Erin Lajoie, daughter of Rick Lajoie, a Fire Department engineer. Erin is working on a degree in English at the University of Washington.

Robert Schuett, a county firefighter, attends Cal Lutheran University and is pursuing master of business administration and master of science in psychology.
