Scott McGhion came from five strokes back to win the Southern California Golf Assn. Amateur Championship at Rancho Santa Fe Golf Club by four strokes.
McGhion, 32, a teacher from Bermuda Dunes who played golf for two years at UC Irvine, shot a four-under-par 67 for a four-under 280 total.
McGhion, who coaches golf at Indio High, held the first round lead in the tournament in 1997, led after three rounds in 1998 and led with three holes to play last year. Third-round leader Steve Conway of Dove Canyon shot a 76 and finished at284 with Terry Noe of Fullerton and Darin Sullivan of San Diego.
