Iverson Scores 43 in Win

Allen Iverson scored 43 points and made two free throws with 1.8 seconds left as the Philadelphia 76ers defeated the Minnesota Timberwolves, 102-100, Tuesday night at Minneapolis for their first seven-game winning streak in over nine years.

It was the eighth time this season that Iverson scored at least 40 points and the 16th time in his career.

Kevin Garnett, who had 31 points and nine rebounds for the Timberwolves, was called for the foul that sent Iverson to the free-throw line for his winning points.

“It was after the shot,” Garnett said. “The shot was way over the rim. If I fouled him, I think it would have come up short.”

San Antonio 89, Portland 85--Tim Duncan scored eight of his 36 points in the final 3:16 after David Robinson was ejected for arguing over an offensive foul as the Spurs rallied from 11 points down in the fourth quarter to win at Portland, Ore.

Scottie Pippen scored a season-high 25 points for the Trail Blazers, who have lost four in a row at home.

Sacramento 103, New York 95--Chris Webber had 21 points, 11 assists and 10 rebounds for his fourth triple-double of the season as the Kings beat the Knicks at Sacramento.

Allan Houston had 33 points for the Knicks, and Patrick Ewing was held to eight.

Miami 81, Phoenix 78--After squandering a 28-point lead late in the game, the Heat got a big dunk from Alonzo Mourning and came back to beat the Suns at Miami.

New Jersey 111, Indiana 106--The Nets, stealing a page from Miami’s script, almost let a 21-point fourth-quarter lead get away before beating the Pacers at East Rutherford, N.J. Keith Van Horn scored 30 points and Stephon Marbury had 28 and 10 assists.

Toronto 99, Cleveland 96--The Raptors made six of seven three-point shots during a 33-13 run that turned a 17-point fourth-quarter deficit into a last-second victory over the Cavaliers at Cleveland.

Charles Oakley, taking a pass from Vince Carter, made the winning shot, a 24-footer from the baseline corner that rattled around the rim before dropping as time expired.

Houston 121, Golden State 86--Walt Williams had 20 points and 11 rebounds to lead the Rockets to a rout of the Warriors at Houston.

Orlando 122, Boston 87--Bo Outlaw had 10 points, 14 rebounds and 10 assists as the Magic outscored the Celtics, 40-11, in the third quarter to win easily at Orlando.

Atlanta 116, Denver 111--Dikembe Mutombo and Alan Henderson each scored 24 points as the Hawks beat the Nuggets at Atlanta to end a three-game losing streak. The Hawks had lost 11 of 13.

Seattle’s starting center Horace Grant suffered a bruised shoulder and reserve Chuck Person aggravated his surgically repaired left knee trying to break up a fight between teammates Gary Payton and Vernon Maxwell that started during practice on Sunday and continued in the locker room. The Seattle Post-Intelligencer reported that, in the locker room, Payton picked up a chair and Maxwell went to find a free weight. The Seattle Times reported that Grant’s shoulder injury was because of a weight that was thrown during the altercation.
