Bryant Ends Career With Mutiple Honors

Travon Bryant of Long Beach Jordan High concluded a stellar high school career Wednesday night by participating in the McDonald’s All-American game at FleetCenter in Boston.

Bryant, a 6-foot-7 power forward, scored seven points as the West defeated the East, 146-120.

Bryant, who has not chosen which college he will attend, was also selected a third-team All-American by Parade magazine.

Tyson Chandler, a junior center for Compton Dominguez, was selected to Parade’s second team.

DeShawn Stevenson of Fresno Washington Union was the only Californian to make the first team.

Bryant and Chandler also were named Southern Section players of the year in divisions I-AA and II-AA respectively.

Other section players of the year: Division I-A--Cedric Bozeman of Santa Ana Mater Dei; II-A--Marques Crane of Huntington Beach Ocean View and Amaury Fernandez of Lakewood Artesia; III--Derrick Craven and Errick Craven of Torrance Bishop Montgomery; IV-AA--Brandon Williams of Playa del Rey St. Bernard; V-A--Felipe Williams of Santa Monica Crossroads; V-AA--Pearson Smith of Long Beach St. Anthony and Tim Drisdom of Downey Calvary Chapel; V-A--Mychal Lynch and Jermaine Jamison of Price.

The girls’ players of the year: I-AA--Dawn McCullouch of Long Beach Wilson; I-A--Diana Taurasi of Chino Don Lugo; II-AA--Chelsea Trotter and Ofa Tulikihihifo of Redondo Union; II-A--Megan Aaker of Laguna Hills; III--Lauren Ervin and Noelle Quinn of Bishop Montgomery; IV-AA--Jamila Veasley of Cerritos Valley Christian; IV-A--Shannon Howell of St. Bernard; V-AA--Andrea Opfer of St. Anthony; V-A--Amber Cunningham of Pilgrim.
