Mike Liskey has been named girls’ basketball coach at Los Alamitos High, girls’ Athletic Director Donna Bohannon said Friday.

Liskey was a boys’ junior varsity coach and varsity assistant last season at Valencia High. Before that, he was an assistant for the Esperanza boys’ varsity.

“I’m an admirer of basketball for either gender,” Liskey said. “Los Alamitos is a great community and a great school, and the potential there is great.”

Liskey received an undergraduate degree from UCLA, where he majored in history. He earned a graduate degree in education in 1995, and a graduate degree in psychology from Indiana in 1998.

Liskey, 31, will teach math or science at Los Alamitos, where he replaces Kevin Davis, who was arrested last month on suspicion of engaging in a sex act with a 16-year-old girl. Davis, whose preliminary hearing is scheduled June 19, has pleaded not guilty.

“When you take over in a situation like this, it’s a difficult task, and I just want to do the best job possible,” Liskey said.

Los Alamitos was 9-17 last season, 1-9 in the Sunset League in Davis’ only year as coach.
