OUTLOOK
Ross returns to lead the offense with several school passing records in sight. A two-time all-league selection and All-Southern Section in 1999, Ross, also the team’s kicker, has thrown for more than 2,000 yards in two seasons and led the team in scoring with 80 points last season. Mayfield rushed for 500 yards last season and caught 16 passes for 260 yards, and Davis rushed for 250 yards in five games. Herring anchors an experienced offensive line that returns four starters. The receiving corps is relatively inexperienced but deep. The group includes Gonzalez, Hobley, Adam Jackson and newcomer Martin Soto. There is plenty of competition at tight end and on the line. The top names on defense are Padilla, Mayfield, Rivera and Steve Noble. Sonora features good speed and Takkinen expects his team to be one of the best-conditioned in the league. Depth could be a problem, but if the younger players come through, the Raiders should be competitive.
