John David Scott; Conductor and Oboist

John David Scott, 47, an oboist and conductor in New York City and Bogota, Colombia, and a music director of musical theater productions on the West Coast. A native of Mt. Kisco, N.Y., Scott studied music at the State University of New York. From the age of 16 he was playing oboe with such organizations as the New York City Ballet Orchestra, the American Symphony and the St. Luke’s Ensemble. From 1978 to 1985 he worked in Bogota, first as principal oboe with the National Symphony of Colombia and the National Opera of Colombia. He later became assistant conductor of that opera and co-director of Colombia’s National Chorus. He returned to the United States to work with the Connecticut Opera and Opera Express, then spent a season at Opera Pacific in Costa Mesa. Turning to musical theater in 1988, Scott became music director for the West Coast productions of “Les Miserables” at Los Angeles’ Schubert Theater and San Francisco’s Curran Theater. In 1992 he held the same position for the national tour of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s “Aspects of Love.” On Wednesday in a Worcester, Mass., hospice of undisclosed causes.
