UCI Medical Center will participate in a national study on whether dietary supplements of selenium and vitamin E can prevent prostate cancer.

Healthy men 55 and older will be taking part in the study, launched Monday by the national Cancer Institute and UC Irvine’s Chao Family Comprehensive Cancer Center. Included in the 12-year program will be more than 32,000 men at more than 400 sites in the United States, Puerto Rico and Canada.

Locally, the study will be conducted by UCI’s Chao cancer center.
