Fullerton Rallies in Ninth for 6-5 Victory Over Cypress

Mike O’Donnell singled home Al Estrada from second with two outs in the ninth inning to give Fullerton a 6-5 victory over visiting Cypress in an Orange Empire Conference baseball game Thursday.

Jerry Robertson’s leadoff home run in the bottom of the ninth tied the score, 5-5, for the Hornets. Estrada then singled with two out, Jonathon Bower got an infield hit and O’Donnell singled to center field to win it for Fullerton (11-12, 4-5-1).

Estrada also had a two-run homer in the fifth inning before Cypress (17-8, 5-5) scored three times in the sixth to tie it, 4-4.

In another conference game:

Golden West 8, Saddleback 6--Derek Amundson’s bases-loaded double in the third gave the Rustlers (9-13, 2-8) the lead for good. Joe Schaefer had two hits for Saddleback (18-5, 7-3).

In Orange Empire Conference softball:

Cypress 1, Santa Ana 0 (10)--Pinch-runner Diana Woodward scored for Cypress (12-8, 8-3) in the 10th inning on Natalie Castro’s throwing error. Cypress freshman Mikki Greenwood pitched a five-hitter, out-dueling Marie Caballero.

Fullerton 18, Saddleback 0 (5)--Andee Lindgren had four hits and four RBIs for the Hornets (24-6-1, 9-1), and Colleen Burdick pitched no-hit ball for five innings. Saddleback is 7-11, 5-7.
