SOUTHERN SECTION FOOTBALL ROUNDUP
Temple City 21, San Marino 0--Two critical interceptions and a tenacious defense spoiled San Marino’s homecoming and allowed visiting Temple City to win the Rio Hondo League game.
Temple City junior cornerback James Griffith picked off a Jonathan Spencer pass and raced 60 yards for a touchdown with 9:21 left in the first half to give the Rams (7-0, 2-0) a 7-0 lead.
In the third quarter, San Marino (6-1, 1-1) was driving for the tying score when a pass was deflected off the Titans’ Andrew Grimes and into the hands of the Rams’ Desmond Reed at the San Marino three-yard line. From there, the Rams drove 97 yards in 14 plays, capped by Matt Malczynski’s two-yard pass to Karam Badawi to give Temple City a 14-0 lead.
Malczynski completed 16 of 26 passes for 231 yards and two touchdowns. The Ram defense held San Marino to 85 yards. It was Temple City’s fourth consecutive victory against San Marino and third consecutive shutout this season.
