Ulicny Is a Force for Fullerton

Share

The balanced play of Tennli Ulicny has helped the Cal State Fullerton women’s soccer team to its first 10-win season since 1996.

Ulicny, a senior midfielder from La Habra, has six goals and six assists for the Titans, who are 10-5-0 overall and lead the Big West Conference with a 5-1-0 record after defeating Long Beach State and UC Irvine last weekend.

Ulicny assisted on every goal scored by the Titans in the two victories.

She made a somersault throw-in to Jenny Mescher that led to the only goal in Fullerton’s 1-0 victory over Long Beach.

UC Irvine moved into first place in the Big West men’s soccer standings, and remained unbeaten in its last six matches, by defeating Fullerton, 7-2, on Sunday.

Junior midfielder Scott Bowman scored Irvine’s first three goals and added an assist as the Anteaters (7-3-4, 3-0-1 in the Big West) defeated Fullerton for the first time in the last nine games between the schools. The seven goals were the most allowed by Fullerton in Division I play.

Irvine plays host to Cal State Northridge (7-3-1, 2-1-0) in a Big West match Sunday.

Fullerton (5-6-1, 3-2) will try to rebound this weekend in the UCLA tournament. The Titans play No. 18 South Carolina on Friday and St. Mary’s on Sunday.
