An artistic nest in Venice

Times Staff Writer

This corner condominium is in the 66-unit Venice Renaissance, an award-winning building designed by Johannes Van Tilburg and constructed in 1989. Jonathan Borofsky’s three-story “Ballerina Clown” and Guy Dill’s “Harmic Arch” sculpture draw attention to the mixed-use project, which has a Chaya Venice restaurant and a yoga studio on its first floor.

The building was ahead of its time as an example of sensible urban design and yet it was inspired by the 1905 Venetian arcades of Venice founder Abbott Kinney. The elaborate Corinthian columns of the street-level loggia match those of the original Venice Center on Venice Boulevard.

About this home: The unit is filled with natural light and ocean breezes. A private deck faces the beach, less than two blocks away. The condo also has a view of the “Harmic Arch.” The open floor plan includes numerous windows, sliding-glass doors and skylights. The complex has courtyards and pathways as well as rooftop pools and gardens.
