Auditors Probe Group’s Funding Practices
Federal auditors are looking into whether a nonprofit legal group that has filed suits that have delayed San Joaquin Valley dairy expansions improperly received federal funds.
Two valley congressmen called for investigations into the relationship between California Rural Legal Assistance Inc. and the Center on Race, Poverty and the Environment.
Auditors are looking at whether California Rural Legal Assistance Inc. improperly funneled taxpayer dollars to related organizations that have fought dairy expansions from Madera to Kern counties.
Jose Padilla, director of the legal assistance group, said his organization has been cleared of similar accusations in the past.
