Quartz Hill Boys Bounce Millikan
The Quartz Hill High boys’ soccer team shouldn’t be wanting for respect any longer.
Not after beating visiting Long Beach Millikan, 1-0, in overtime of a semifinal game of the Southern Section Division I playoffs on Tuesday.
With junior Kiel McClung scoring at the 97-minute mark and with his older brother Ian making two brilliant saves earlier in the 20-minute overtime period, Quartz Hill (28-0-1) advanced to its first section title game.
Millikan finished 25-3-2.
The second-seeded Rebels will play Lawndale Leuzinger, which upset top-seeded Alta Loma, 1-0, in the other semifinal, for the Division I championship on Saturday at either Cerritos Gahr High or La Mirada High.
Kiel McClung scored his 34th goal of the season 17 minutes into overtime when he took a long pass from Nick Angelillo, then headed it into the open net.
