Tverdovsky’s Streak Ends at 363 Games

Share

Mighty Duck defenseman Oleg Tverdovsky was not in the lineup Wednesday against the Phoenix Coyotes, ending his consecutive-game streak at 363 games.

Tverdovsky was scratched because of a strained groin in his left leg, suffered in Friday’s game against St. Louis. He played 20 minutes 3 seconds against Dallas on Sunday but was downcast after the morning skate Wednesday.

“Some things you just can’t overcome,” Tverdovsky said.

The streak began Dec. 27, 1997, against the Kings and was the second-longest active one in the NHL. Chicago’s Tony Amonte played in his 401st consecutive game Wednesday. Tverdovsky, who began the streak while playing for Phoenix, had appeared in 237 consecutive games with the Ducks, a team record.

It’s the second longevity streak to end for a Duck player this season. Defenseman Keith Carney had a 262-game streak end after suffering a broken bone in his right hand against Calgary on Nov. 7.

“I’ve been lucky because I didn’t have serious injuries,” Tverdovsky said. “This is the worst time I ever had. It’s different.”
