Amtrak Train Hits Abandoned Truck Just Outside Moorpark
More than 300 train riders traveling from Santa Barbara to Los Angeles County got a jolt Friday when an Amtrak Surfliner slammed into an abandoned truck on the tracks just outside Moorpark.
“We felt, like, a shock, and then the train lurched as the conductor put the emergency brake on and then dust went flying,” said passenger Tulley Brown, 70, of La Crescenta.
Truck driver Michael Vang, 39, of Palmdale had been heading home on California 118 when he failed to see that several cars in front of him had stopped for the passing train.
Vang slammed on his brakes, swerved and came to rest on the tracks. His company truck stalled, so he ran, police said. He was not hurt.
