From staff reports
Scott King of Van Nuys Birmingham has been selected as the state girls’ track and field coach of the year by the California Coaches Assn.
King, who is in his 14th season at Birmingham, guided the Patriots to second place on Thursday in the City Section girls’ track finals. Birmingham scored the highest point total ever for a runner-up team.
Last year, he led the Patriots to their first city girls’ title after having finished third the previous three years.
