Ole Miss Boots Two Players

Mississippi starting tailback Robert Williams and backup receiver Trey Fryfogle have been kicked off the team for violating unspecified team rules, Coach David Cutcliffe said Monday.

Williams, a senior, was the Rebels’ leading rusher with 307 yards and four touchdowns despite sitting out five games because of injuries.

Fryfogle, a sophomore, had 13 receptions for 141 yards and one touchdown.

Freshman quarterback Reggie McNeal, who threw four touchdown passes to rally Texas A&M; past then-No. 1 Oklahoma, 30-26, on Saturday, has become the Aggies’ starter, replacing Dustin Long.

Coach R.C. Slocum said McNeal will start Saturday against Missouri.

“Based on his performance last week, I think he’s earned it,” Slocum said.

McNeal is Slocum’s third starting quarterback this season. Slocum started with senior Mark Farris, shifted to Long after the third game of the season and now will go with McNeal.

Miami Coach Larry Coker underwent surgery on his left knee, then returned to work.

The nature of Coker’s knee ailment wasn’t immediately known. The No. 1 Hurricanes are off this weekend and next play No. 18 Pittsburgh on Nov. 21.
