This 304-page paperback is co-written by print and television journalists Keith Marder, Mark Spellen and Jim Donovan, who provide numerous easy-to-follow charts and graphs.

The first 227 pages are devoted to pictures and biographies of hundreds of former Fighting Irish standouts -- among them the six mentioned above. The stars profiled have all contributed to Notre Dame’s 75%-plus winning mark, 11 national championships, 24 bowl appearances, and inclusion of 37 players and five coaches in the College Football Hall of Fame -- more than any other institution.

The rest of the book covers Notre Dame players who played professional football, all-time Notre Dame results and school records, Fighting Irish award winners, memorable moments, famous stories and classic anecdotes.

The authors, of whom only Spellen is a Notre Dame graduate, close the book with an all-time Notre Dame dream team, complete with Gipp at running back, Rockne as coach, Daniel “Rudy” Ruettiger as its mascot, and television personality Regis Philbin, an outspoken Notre Dame alumnus, as head cheerleader.
