Polynice Returns With 76ers

The Philadelphia 76ers signed center Olden Polynice on Monday after he sat out all of last season. Contract terms were not disclosed.

Polynice, a 7-footer who has played for five other teams during his 14-year career, did not re-sign with the Utah Jazz before last season.

Polynice, 37, has averaged 7.8 points and 6.7 rebounds in his career. In his last season with Utah, he averaged 5.3 points and 4.7 rebounds.

The Milwaukee Bucks signed guard Michael Redd to a multiyear contract almost two weeks after he agreed to a $12-million offer sheet with the Dallas Mavericks.

The Bucks had 15 days to match the offer sheet to the restricted free agent.

Redd was a second-round pick in 2000 and appeared in 67 games last season. He averaged 11.4 points and 3.3 rebounds and shot over 44% from three-point range.

Cleveland Cavalier center Zydrunas Ilgauskas was suspended by the NBA for one game after being arrested last month for drunken driving.

Ilgauskas will miss Cleveland’s regular-season opener at Sacramento.

Last week, Ilgauskas, 27, pleaded no contest to drunken driving on Sept. 15 and was sentenced to one year’s probation. A 30-day jail sentence was suspended and Ilgauskas was fined $1,000.

City leaders in Charlotte, N.C., unveiled a financing plan for a $257.5-million downtown arena that could bring the NBA back to Charlotte.

Only five months after the Hornets moved to New Orleans, officials said they are close to a final agreement with the NBA under which the city would build a new arena -- featuring sufficient premium seats and luxury suites -- and the league would grant Charlotte an expansion team.
