Wooden Adds Award
There will be another John Wooden Award.
But unlike the honor that recognizes college basketball’s player of the year, this one will encompass not only Wooden’s success as a coach, but also the contributions that his late wife, Nell, made in his development on the path to 10 national championships at UCLA.
The World Sports Humanitarian Hall of Fame announced the creation of the new award -- the Nell and John Wooden Humanitarian Award for Lifetime Coaching Achievement -- and will honor Wooden as the first recipient Nov. 6 at Boise State in Idaho.
Future honorees will be selected from any sport at the high school, college or professional level and be judged on, among other things, longevity and success, community work and the impact of player/coach relationships.
