It Will Be Decided at Trial

Those who like trial races will be in their glory tonight.

Seven of the 11 races on the card are trials for the $733,950 Golden State Futurity, a Grade I for 2-year-olds on Nov. 3.

The 10 fastest qualifiers among the 58 entered this evening in the 400-yard trials will advance to the final, which was won last year by Tres Seis.

In the fifth trial, Special Queen Sa, fastest qualifier for the PCQHRA Breeders Futurity this year, will try to bounce back from an unfortunate incident in the Breeders Futurity last month. The even-money favorite, she hit the rail and fell early in the race.

Deefirst, who was second in the Breeders Futurity at 17-1, will compete in the third trial and one of his opponents will be Meteoric, who has won six of seven, his only loss coming when he was third in the All American Futurity at Ruidoso Downs on Sept. 2.

Four! Single Wilyacrossmyvalle in the first, use Traffic Attraction, Dash For Apollo and Pritzi Too in the second, Departure Time, Runningwiththewind and Deal ‘em Jack in the third and First Steps Special, Sheznoshezroyal and Ipomea in the fourth.

Shots in the dark: Corona Caliente is a firster in the fifth from a good trainer (John Bassett) with a top rider (Joe Badilla Jr.). Catch This Snowball debuts in the eighth for trainer Donna McArthur.
