Anniversary Observances

Public gatherings are planned throughout the region to mark the first anniversary of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks. They include, but are not limited to, the following:

Tuesday, Sept. 10:

VENTURA COUNTY:

Oxnard, City Hall, 300 W. 3rd St., 8 p.m., candlelight prayer.

Wednesday, Sept. 11:

VENTURA COUNTY:

Camarillo, Constitution Park, Paseo Camarillo and North Carmen Drive, 7 p.m., color guard, Gold Coast Pipe and Drum Band, Fire Department ceremony, Air National Guard Band of the Southwest and the Channelaire Chorus.

Fillmore, City Hall, 250 Central Ave., 7 p.m., tribute to public servants from Sheriff’s Department, Fire Department, local government and the military. Event will include songs, prayer and a candle-lighting service.

Ojai, Libbey Park fountain, Ojai Avenue and Signal Street, 7:30 a.m., ceremony with police and fire department personnel, elected officials, Girl Scouts and veterans groups. At 7 p.m., an interfaith service.

Ojai, 206 N. Signal St., Suite R, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., National Disaster Search Dog Foundation holds an open house featuring photos of Ground Zero and letters of thanks. The foundation sent 13 dogs to the World Trade Center in New York after the attacks.

Simi Valley, Ronald Reagan Presidential Library and Museum, 40 Presidential Drive, 6:45 to 8:30 a.m., police and firefighting agencies, continental breakfast. Admission $3; reservations required. For information, call (805) 522-2977.

Ventura, City Hall, 501 Poli St., 6:30 p.m., police and fire color guard, 21-gun salute, choir music.

Ventura, Government Center, 800 S. Victoria Ave., 10:20 a.m., honor guard, bagpiper, flag-lowering and a flyover by a Ventura County sheriff’s helicopter.

L.A. COUNTY:

Calabasas, The Commons at Calabasas shopping center, 4799 Commons Way, community stage, 12:30 p.m., ceremony of remembrance.

Lancaster, City Hall, 44933 N. Fern Ave., 11 a.m., ceremony with music and tributes.

* Woodland Hills, Warner Ranch Park, 5800 Topanga Canyon Blvd., 8 a.m., West Valley community ceremony by residents and business representatives.

Newhall, William S. Hart High School auditorium, 24825 Newhall Ave., 7 p.m., memorial program with performance by a children’s choir.

Cal State Northridge, 18111 Nordhoff St., Oviatt Library lawn, noon, remembrance program with comments by college president, faculty president and student government president.

Santa Clarita, City Hall, 23920 Valencia Blvd., Suite 300, 6:45 p.m., Liberty Garden dedication and patriotic candlelight ceremony.

Sylmar, Los Angeles Mission College quad, 13356 Eldridge Ave., 12:30 p.m., remembrance ceremony with speakers.

Valencia, Honor Grove at College of the Canyons, 26455 N. Rockwell Canyon Road, noon, carillon music and signing of remembrance ledger.

Woodland Hills, Pierce College, Swisher Park, 6201 Winnetka Ave., noon, commemorative event with speakers.
