Frankel’s Sightseek Favored

Share

If trainer Bobby Frankel is going to win another Grade I today, chances are it will be at Saratoga rather than Del Mar.

The country’s runaway leader in terms of stable earnings, Frankel will send out favored Sightseek in the $250,000 Go For Wand Handicap at Saratoga, and will be represented by longshots Decarchy and Fateful Dream in the $400,000 Eddie Read Handicap at Del Mar.

Sightseek, a 4-year-old daughter of Distant View, has won six of 10 and has been second in her four losses. She’ll start the 1 1/8-mile Go For Wand with a two-race winning streak.

Jerry Bailey, who has been aboard for all of her victories, has the mount as Sightseek tries for her second victory at Saratoga. She broke her maiden in her bow by nearly eight lengths there last July.

Redattore is the one to beat in the Read, which is part of a pick six with a carry-over of $242,313 and goes at 1 1/8 miles on the turf. The 8-year-old is 3-0 in 2003.

Race of the day: Pocketfullofpesos, an excellent $40,000 claim by trainer Mike Mitchell, Princess V. and Summer Wind Dancer top a field of California-bred fillies in the $100,000 Fleet Treat Stakes at Del Mar.

*

One for the road: Gambler’s Mark has little to beat as he makes his second start in Northern California in today’s ninth at Santa Rosa. The 3-year-old Benchmark gelding chased the impressive debut winner K O Love at Bay Meadows in his last start.

*

Exotically speaking: A pick three using B.Z. Jones, Chinkapin and Dixie Thrill in the fourth, singling Just Like That in the fifth and using Princess V., Pocketfullofpesos, Summer Wind Dancer and Bartok’s Blithe in the sixth.
