The Angels’ unsuccessful season is not expected...

The Angels’ unsuccessful season is not expected to cost any of the coaches their jobs, but it could cost those coaches the chance to interview for managerial openings elsewhere.

In the wake of the Angels’ highly successful season last year, coaches Bud Black and Ron Roenicke received interviews, Black with the Cleveland Indians and Roenicke with the Seattle Mariners.

“I don’t think I interview last year unless we win,” Roenicke said.

Black, Roenicke and fellow coaches Alfredo Griffin, Mickey Hatcher and Joe Maddon all have managerial ambitions. Angel Manager Mike Scioscia said a poor season should not preclude other clubs from considering his coaches.

“If you’re coming from a winning environment, and an organization is looking for somebody, it has meaning in their eyes,” Scioscia said. “But I think the guys on our staff are long-established winners. I don’t think their value will rise or fall based on the fortunes of the club.”

With the exception of Black, all the coaches are signed through next season. Black said he wants to return.

“I don’t see us shuffling the deck right now,” General Manager Bill Stoneman said.

Stoneman said he endorsed Black -- “Buddy’s a good pitching coach,” he said -- and the two are expected to discuss a new contract after the season.

Black turned down the Indians after deciding not to pursue a job so far from his San Diego home and his two teenage daughters. That priority has not changed this year, he said. There are no projected managerial openings among National League West or American League West teams, although the Dodgers’ potential ownership change leaves Jim Tracy’s status unsettled.

Sunday’s Game 2 rainout could force the Angels to return here for a makeup game Sept. 29, the day after the regular season ends, if necessary to determine the Royals’ playoff fate. Jarrod Washburn, the Angels’ player representative, said he did not envision asking the union whether the game could instead be made up when the teams play next weekend in Anaheim.

“In the position we’re in this year, I don’t think anybody wants the season to last any longer than planned,” he said. “But, if the positions were reversed, we would want to be in the position to play what could be a very important game in our home park.”
