Man Held After Ill Wife Dies of Illegal Drugs

A San Diego man who said he had been trying to help his 69-year-old wife cope with pain from an undisclosed illness injected her with a fatal dose of illegal drugs, police said.
Sandra Howell died late Saturday at the couple’s home, police said. Officers arrested James Howell, 52.
The suspect said his wife had been in pain and that he had bought the drugs on the street for her to try.
A first injection failed to relieve the pain, he said, so he gave her a second dose.
