George Moore, 83; Indiana Auto Racing Writer, Columnist
George Moore, 83, a longtime auto racing columnist for the Indianapolis Star, died Monday.
Moore joined the Star in 1961 after eight years at the Indianapolis Times and was the automotive editor until his retirement in 1991. He remained active after his retirement, covering the Indianapolis 500 and writing magazine columns.
The National Hot Rod Assn. and Indianapolis Raceway Park honored Moore in 1984 by naming the press center at the Clermont track the George Moore Press Center. In 1985, he received the Ray Marquette Memorial Award for journalistic contributions to racing.
