All the great meals missed in Prague

Share

We were delighted to see “Prague Regains Its Glow,” Sept. 14. We were there just before reporter Beverly Beyette.

We spent five nights and stayed at Hotel Josef, but our rate was significantly less than what you quoted. Also, keep in mind that this is a Czech hotel and not an American hotel, so the English is not flawless. But we found the service to be excellent.

Beyette missed some very nice dining opportunities. First, in Old Town Square, Hotel U Prince has terrace dining overlooking the Old Town Square. The views of the sunset over the castle were worth the reasonable price for a good meal.

Beyette mentioned the Municipal House at Republic Square but did not mention the restaurant or that one of the world’s great concert halls is there. We attended a wonderful concert by the Prague Symphony Orchestra in Smetana Hall and had another special meal in the French restaurant on the first floor of the Municipal Building. We enjoyed U Zlate Studne, another terrace restaurant and part of the hotel of the same name. This restaurant has panoramic views of the city.

Your article on Prague brought back great memories. One evening during our stay we attended a theater performance that we highly recommend. It is called “Laterna Magika,” and it is performed nightly. The shows change regularly, but they are a unique combination of music, dance, mime and picture projection. The best part is, because there is no language involved, it can be enjoyed by people from all countries. They have a Web site, www.laterna.cz, and you can buy tickets ahead and pick them up at the box office.
