Burgers now tacos
Highland Grounds owners Richard and Leslie Brenner tell me they just took over Jack’s Classic Hamburger in Studio City, directly across from Hugo’s, a popular Riverside Drive spot they co-own with Tom and Emily Kaplan and Bill Kohne. They’re dubbing it Hugo’s Tacos, and the plan is to make poppin’ fresh food real fast. And good news for late-night clubbers -- Hugo’s will open in the wee hours to serve the freeway-strong Mexican chocolate coffee to go. Feel the burn.... Also at Highland Grounds, the Hollywood eatery and club celebrates the 13th anniversary of Billy Block’s Western Beat on Sept. 2 with a show featuring Spencer Davis, I See Hawks in L.A., Lowen & Navarro and others.
A bit of Madonna
Madonna fans vogued on Friday at Tigerheat’s annual birthday bash for the mommy diva, held at the Hollywood Athletic Club. Apparently she took a cue from Eminem and cleaned out her closets, and lucky guests scored personal items from her. I’m told the last time Tigerheat revelers had that much fun was Britney Spears’ night.... The Cramps are set to headline the eighth annual Masquerade Ball on Oct. 30 at the Athletic Club.... Club ‘80s is throwing a mondo Labor Day Bash at the Ruby on Hollywood Boulevard on Sept. 5. Expect plenty of Men at Work.... We hear promoter Hartwell has a sweet Wednesday-night scene brewing at Guy’s, and speaking of the Beverly Boulevard bar, promoter Michael Sutton just launched a new Friday night there.... Taking a cue from “Annie Hall,” Cyrano on Beverly Boulevard made its debut as a fab lounge called La Di Da, which already has a slammin’ Friday night called Rumor.
Prepare to party
Don’t miss the grand opening of Tabu Wednesdays on Sept. 1 at the Bungalow Club, a Melrose Avenue joint complete with candles, hookahs and waterfalls. Splashy.... Hollywood’s Continental bar and lounge celebrates five years tonight. Get there early, because Matt Damon and Ben Affleck’s hotspot is offering an open Stoli bar all night. Ouch.
