Remember PSA before Southwest?

Jane Engle’s “Flying the Frugal Skies Can Be Fun” [March 21] is incorrect in calling Southwest the “granddaddy of discount carriers.” She must be too young to know that the true pioneer in that area is Pacific Southwest Airlines.

As early as the 1960s, a time when other carriers were still taking themselves too seriously, PSA offered discounted fares, no-frills service, colorful cabin decor and fun-loving, stylishly attired crews. The fun ended in the 1980s when PSA was taken over by USAir.
