Share

For the second consecutive day, Hollywood Park will have a large field in a graded stakes.

Ten horses were entered in Saturday’s Native Diver Handicap and 13 fillies and mares are scheduled to go 1 1/16 miles in the $150,000 Bayakoa Handicap this afternoon in Inglewood.

The one to beat in the Grade II is Dream Of Summer, a 122-pound highweight and recent millionaire.

Owned by breeder Jim Weigel and trained by Juan Garcia, the 6-year-old Siberian Summer mare went over seven figures in earnings with a 1 1/2 -length score over House Of Fortune and five others in the $150,000 California Cup Matron on Nov. 6 at Santa Anita.

A winner of 10 of 17 lifetime, Dream Of Summer, who will be ridden by Patrick Valenzuela, has fared well at Hollywood Park. She has three wins in five starts over the local main track and was second in one of her defeats.

Star Parade has won two of five at Hollywood Park, but she has fallen on hard times of late for owner Gary Tanaka and trainer Darrell Vienna. She is 0 for 8 this year and hasn’t won since taking the Milady Breeders’ Cup Handicap on July 11, 2004. She will be ridden by Martin Pedroza.

The Bayakoa also includes multiple stakes winner Island Fashion, who is marooned in the outside post in the bulky field.

Race of the day: Don’t Tell Joey, who broke his maiden by 5 1/2 in his debut at Philadelphia Park on Nov. 12, will try two turns for the first time when he meets 11 other New York breds in the $75,000 Damon Runyon today at Aqueduct. Owned by Vincent Papandrea and trained by Martin Ciresa, the 2-year-old Take Me Out colt will be ridden by Jose Santos in the 1 1/16 -mile contest.

One for the road: Broadstreetbully missed by a nose when troubled at Philadelphia Park on Nov. 8 and can graduate in his first with Lasix in today’s sixth at Louisiana Downs. Corey Lanerie will ride the 2-year-old son of Broad Brush for owner William Schwartz and trainer John Servis in the $35,000 maiden race at 1 1/16 miles.

Exotically speaking: A pick three using Trail Mix in the first, Aries Rising and Emperoroftheraces in the second and Recuerdo Pia, Del Mar Storm and Jasjonjake in the third.
