Let’s Place the Blame on Importers, Not China
Regarding “China Dons Even Bigger Export Hat” (March 11): So U.S. manufacturers “blame China for flooding the U.S. market with goods, triggering plant closures and thousands of job cuts.”
Is China really to blame? Someone’s got to order this flood of goods that put thousands of U.S. citizens out of work. How about the U.S. Assn. of Importers of Textiles and Apparel, which obtained an injunction blocking import curbs (“U.S., EU to Press China on Apparel,” March 12)?
We should impose a tariff on Wal-Mart, Target, Old Navy, etc., for importing these goods over U.S. or European goods.
Oh, wait a minute -- then they’d have to raise their prices and become more competitive with the retailers they’ve been undercutting for years.
