Washington May Lose Rising Quarterback

Washington quarterback Johnny DuRocher’s season might be over.

DuRocher, a sophomore, suffered a broken bone in his left wrist when he replaced starter Isaiah Stanback in the second half of the Huskies’ weekend loss to Oregon State.

On Monday, Coach Tyrone Willingham was unwilling to rule DuRocher out of Saturday’s Pacific 10 Conference game against Arizona in Tucson. He said he wanted to talk to team doctors first.

“We’ll have a clearer picture on that [today],” Willingham said. “Is it conceivable that he might play? We don’t know yet. I think that’s a very honest answer.”

The 6-foot-4, 215-pound DuRocher, a transfer from Oregon, appeared to be on the verge of becoming Washington’s starting quarterback after rallying the Huskies to 10 points in the fourth quarter of his team’s 18-10 loss to the Beavers.

Meanwhile, linebacker Joe Lobendahn, a senior, is out for the final two games of his career because of a left knee injury, Willingham said. Lobendahn was the team’s second-leading tackler with 76.

“That is a very costly loss for this team,” Willingham said. “He is the heart and soul of -- not just our defense -- but our team.”

Florida receiver Dallas Baker might not be able to play in Saturday’s game at South Carolina because of a broken rib and a punctured lung.

Baker, the team’s second-leading receiver, was hurt Saturday during a 49-42 double-overtime victory against Vanderbilt.

“We’ll know more about Dallas Baker later this week,” Florida Coach Urban Meyer said. “It does not look promising.”
