Dead Diver Is Brother of Ex-South Gate Treasurer
From Times Staff and Wire Reports
A diver whose body was recovered Thursday about three miles offshore near the Los Angeles Channel has been identified as the younger brother of convicted ex-South Gate treasurer Albert Robles.
Mahatma Gandhi Robles, 40, was diving in the area of a wreck Wednesday when he disappeared.
He had been aboard a vessel called the “Salty V.”
The county coroner was investigating the cause of death. South Gate officials said Robles was a trained diver.
Gandhi Robles’ brother was convicted last year on federal corruption charges.
He has not been sentenced.
