North Carolina Defeats Duke, 77-65
North Carolina left little doubt Saturday about who is No. 1.
Ivory Latta scored 18 points to help the second-ranked Tar Heels beat top-ranked Duke, 77-65, a win that gave them the Atlantic Coast Conference regular-season title and a likely return to the top of the national rankings.
Erlana Larkins and La’Tangela Atkinson each added 16 points for the Tar Heels (26-1, 13-1), who led the entire way to earn their fifth consecutive win in the series.
Wanisha Smith scored 16 points to lead the Blue Devils (25-2, 12-2).
No. 7 Rutgers 65, Pittsburgh 50 -- The Scarlet Knights (23-3, 15-0) clinched at least a tie for their second straight Big East regular-season title by beating the Panthers (18-8, 9-6) at Pittsburgh.
It marked the 23rd consecutive Big East win for the Scarlet Knights, who can win the outright title and the No. 1 seed in the Big East tournament with a win at home Monday night against Connecticut.
No. 8 Connecticut 74, Marquette 59 -- Renee Montgomery scored 15 points, and Barbara Turner and Charde Houston each scored 10 for the Huskies (26-3, 14-1), who have won five in a row. Svetlana Kovalenko led Marquette (17-9, 8-7) with 12 points.
No. 10 Baylor 79, Kansas State 70 -- The Bears’ Sophia Young had 33 points and 13 rebounds at Manhattan, Kan., for her 13th double-double of the season.
Chameka Scott also had a double-double with 10 points and 12 rebounds for Baylor (21-5, 10-4 Big 12). The Wildcats (17-9, 7-8) lost their regular-season home finale for the first time since 1998.
No. 11 Arizona State 81, Arizona 45 -- The Sun Devils (23-5, 14-4), who won their ninth in a row, finished a game behind Stanford in the Pacific 10 standings and will be the No. 2 seed in the conference tournament next weekend in San Jose. The Wildcats (7-21, 3-15) lost their ninth in a row.
No. 15 Stanford 78, Washington State 47 -- Candice Wiggins scored 14 of her 22 points in the second half to help the Cardinal (21-6, 15-3) beat the visiting Cougars (8-19, 2-16) win the Pac-10 title.
No. 16 DePaul 74, Providence 68 -- Khara Smith scored 22 points and had 13 rebounds to lead the Blue Demons (23-5, 10-5 Big East) past the host Friars (8-18, 3-12) for their fifth straight win.
No. 21 Brigham Young 73, Texas Christian 56 -- Ambrosia Anderson scored 25 points to lead the host Cougars (22-3, 12-2 Mountain West Conference) over the Horned Frogs (15-10, 9-5).
No. 23 New Mexico 73, San Diego State 48 -- Julie Briody tied a career high with 20 points for the visiting Lobos (20-7, 10-4 Mountain West), who eased past the Aztecs (3-22, 0-15).
