Glenn Sutton, 69; wrote hit songs for Jerry Lee Lewis, Tammy Wynette

Glenn Sutton, 69, a songwriter and music producer who wrote hits for Tammy Wynette and other artists, died April 17 of an apparent heart attack at his Nashville home, the Nashville Tennessean reported.

Along with frequent writing partner Billy Sherrill, Sutton co-wrote the 1966 million seller “Almost Persuaded,” recorded by David Houston. Sutton and Sherrill also co-wrote “I Don’t Want to Play House” and “Your Good Girl’s Gonna Go Bad,” both 1967 hits for Wynette. Sutton wrote Jerry Lee Lewis’ 1968 hit “What’s Made Milwaukee Famous [Has Made a Loser Out of Me].”

He also produced “[I Never Promised You A] Rose Garden” for his former wife, Lynn Anderson, in 1970.

He was born Royce Glenn Sutton in 1937 in Hodge, La., and was inducted into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1999.
