Ex-NFL referee’s grandson is slain
San Bernardino police are investigating a shooting that killed the grandson of a longtime NFL referee early Monday.
Donnell Jury, 25, of San Bernardino was shot once in a grocery store parking lot in the 500 block of West 2nd Street shortly after leaving a bar nearby, said Police Sgt. Dave Dillon. Jury was pronounced dead at the scene.
Dillon said the shooting probably followed an argument among several people at the Carlos O’Brien’s nightclub, 440 W. Court St.
“That’s what we are figuring, but we haven’t been able to confirm that because witnesses haven’t come forward,” Dillon said.
About 100 people had gathered in the parking lot, and police received several calls shortly after 2 a.m. alerting them to the shooting, Dillon said.
Jury is the grandson of Rialto native Al Jury, who refereed five Super Bowls and also worked in the off season as a California Highway Patrol officer for nearly 30 years.
Police ask that anyone with information call (909) 384-5624.
