Titans...38 Texans...36
HOUSTON -- Rob Bironas kicked an NFL-record eight field goals and the Tennessee Titans needed every one of them to hold off the Houston Texans, 38-36.
Bironas’ 29-yard field goal as time expired foiled a spirited rally by the Texans (3-4), who scored 29 points in the fourth quarter, capped by a 53-yard touchdown pass from Sage Rosenfels to Andre’ Davis to take a 36-35 lead with 57 seconds to play.
The Titans (4-2) faced a third and 10 at their 37 when Kerry Collins found Roydell Williams on a 46-yard pass that set up the winning kick.
The Titans were playing without Vince Young, who was active but sat out in his hometown because of a strained quadriceps. Collins got his first win as a starter in Tennessee after losing the first three games of last season.
Quoteworthy: “I knew we’d hit quite a few, but I try not to count.” -- Rob Bironas, Titans kicker, on his eight field goals
