NCAA odds are tough for bettors

Individual odds for most of the teams who have already earned bids to the NCAA tournament are not available.

On the website Vegasinsider.com, schools such as Austin Peay, Belmont, Siena, Portland State and Cornell, all of which are, to say the least, extreme longshots to win the national title, are part of the field, which is only 25-1.

Of the teams that have qualified that are listed individually, Butler is the shortest price at 75-1. The Horizon League champions have been bet in half after opening at 150-1. Davidson, which played a difficult nonconference schedule before capturing the Southern Conference, is now 150-1 after opening at 250-1.

Sun Belt king Western Kentucky is 500-1 and Winthrop, which won the Big South, is 1,000-1.

The website Bodoglife.com is offering 15-1 that the WBC super-featherweight title fight between Manny Pacquiao and Juan Manuel Marquez tonight in Las Vegas will conclude in a draw.

That’s how things ended the last time Pacquiao and Marquez met four years ago.

Those who believe Pacquiao (45-3-2) will win by knockout, technical knockout or disqualification will get odds of 11-5, and 2-1 for a decision. Marquez is 32-5 to win by KO, TKO or DQ and 23-10 by decision. Marquez, who was knocked down three times in the first round when he faced Pacquiao in 2004, is +170 to be knocked down or knocked out tonight, meaning a bettor would wager $100 to win $170.

He is -220, which means a player would bet $220 to win $100, that he will not be knocked down or out.

Georgie Boy, who has yet to prove himself beyond seven furlongs, is currently only 20-1 to win the Kentucky Derby on Bodoglife.com.

The gelded son of Tribal Rule will make his first start around two turns in the $200,000 San Felipe today at Santa Anita along with two other 3-year-olds who are also listed on the website. Bob Black Jack, who has two wins at seven furlongs, is 50-1 and Gayego, who has victories at six and 6 1/2 furlongs, is 100-1.

Boston and Philadelphia, which currently own the final two playoff spots in the Eastern Conference, will get together this afternoon.

Given the way the first three games between the two have gone this season, the edge should belong to the visiting Flyers. The road team is 3-0 in the series.
