A former San Diego Padre player with a history of legal problems was charged Monday with four misdemeanor battery counts after a Feb. 4 brawl at Granite Hills High School in El Cajon.

Matthew Brian Bush, 23, is charged with roughing up lacrosse players at the high school. He is to be arraigned April 28.

Bush was a high school star in San Diego and was drafted by the Padres in 2004 as a shortstop. His career was nearly derailed by accusations of public drunkenness and fighting. He was traded in February to the Toronto Blue Jays.
