Clippers guard Randy Foye expects to return Wednesday against 76ers

The Clippers have played 25 games. Guard Randy Foye has played in only seven of them.

The rest he has missed with injuries, and the Clippers (5-20), in turn, have missed a veteran among a young core of players.

But Foye, who hasn’t played since a Nov. 26 loss at Phoenix, expects to return Wednesday night against Philadelphia now that he’s recovered from a strained left hamstring.

“The last four or five games, I’ve been really anxious, just to get out there and play again,” Foye said Tuesday after practice. In that stretch, the Clippers have suffered two one-point losses and two nine-point losses, and Foye knows his presence in those games could have made a difference.

“I love playing in situations like that,” he said.

Foye, 27, in his fifth season in the league, has averaged 4.6 points this season.

Coach Vinny Del Negro said the Clippers will ease Foye into the game; Foye said he rushed his previous return this season from a hamstring strain.

His return could help as the Clippers look for their first road victory this season; they are 0-10.

Looking to shoot

Baron Davis has battled injuries, poor conditioning and apparent on-court belittling from Clippers owner Donald Sterling, but the point guard said this week that he needs to be more of a scorer.

“I’m going to start a little bit more looking to score, be a threat out there, which I know I can do,” Davis said.

The 11-year veteran is averaging 7.4 points, on pace for his lowest average since his rookie season (5.9) in 1999-2000.

Davis said if he provides more offense it will draw some defenders away from rookie forward Blake Griffin.

But Davis added that coming off the bench, which he has done lately because rookie Eric Bledsoe often starts, makes it harder for him to get into a rhythm.

“Starting, you get a lot more engaged in the game,” Davis said.

Poor starts have hurt the Clippers this season, especially in Sunday’s loss to Orlando when they trailed

by 21 points after the first quarter.
