Audi lets viewers choose ending of Super Bowl ad

Share

If you took your dad’s new Audi S6 to the prom and then stole a kiss from the prom queen, how would you want your night to end?

Such was the question posed to Audi fans over the weekend for its upcoming Super Bowl ad. The automaker posted to its YouTube page one spot with three different endings and asked viewers to vote on which ending they liked best.

The winning spot was announced on Saturday.

In all three versions, a young man goes to his prom without a date. Possibly out of pity, his father tosses him the keys to Audi’s new S6 sedan. Apparently emboldened by the car, our protagonist parks the car in the principal’s spot, marches into the dance, and lays a kiss on the unsuspecting prom queen. This incurs the wrath of the prom king.

It’s there that viewers could choose how the night ended. The winning spot, which Super Bowl viewers will see during the game on Sunday between the San Francisco 49ers and the Baltimore Ravens, is below. The other two endings are here and here.

2013 will mark the sixth consecutive year Audi has run Super Bowl ads. Other memorable spots include a Kenny G cameo in 2011 and a spoof on the infamous horse head scene from “The Godfather” in 2008.

Audi joins automakers like Hyundai, Kia, Toyota, Mercedes-Benz, and Volkswagen who are spending big money to advertise during this year’s big game. The average price for a 30-second spot is $3.8 million, while a 60-second ad averages $7.5 million.
