Hotel rates in London jump 69% for Olympics
London has never been a travel destination for the budget-minded.
During the Summer Olympics, visiting the English capital will be even more expensive.
The rates for hotel rooms during the summer games have increased an average of 69%, to about $292 per night, compared with the same time last year, according to a study by TravelClick, a New York company that provides e-commerce products and services to the hotel industry.
The occupancy rate across the city for the entire Olympics (July 27 to Aug. 12) now stands at an average of 77%, compared with 54.9% during the same period last year, according to TravelClick.
The busiest day so far during the Olympics is Saturday, Aug. 4, coinciding with the women’s 50-meter freestyle and 4x100-meter medley relay finals, as well as the men’s 1500-meter freestyle and 4x100m medley relay finals.
Occupancy for this date is at 82%, compared with 67.4% on the same date last year, TravelClick said.
