Michigan weekend home of late movie critic Roger Ebert is on the market

The weekend getaway home of the late movie critic Roger Ebert is on the market in Harbert, Mich., for $4 million.

Set on 1.2 lakefront acres, the English Tudor-style home known as Ravenswood is about 80 miles from Chicago.

The 1934 home has a den/study, a recreation room, four bedrooms, four bathrooms and a powder room. The family room, with a small raised stage at one end, was used for movie screenings as well as musical and theatrical performances.

A lake-facing terrace extends the living space outdoors.

Including a detached guest house near the beachfront, there is 5,440 square feet of living space.

Ebert, who died in 2013 at 70, was a Chicago Sun-Times columnist and Pulitzer Prize winner for criticism. He was famously paired with Chicago Tribune critic Gene Siskel on a series of film rating shows on television. Ultimately, their movie reviews were boiled down to a thumb’s up or a thumb’s down.

Ebert bought the property in 1989 for an undisclosed amount. His widow, Chaz Ebert, is the seller.
